Badgers Throttle New Mexico State In 66-7 Bounceback Victory

It was a much needed bounceback victory for the Wisconsin Badgers. Coming off a tough loss last week against Washington State, Wisconsin took control early and did not take their foot off the gas pedal all game long, ending with a 66-7 victory over the New Mexico State Aggies.

On the first drive of the game, within the first two minutes of the game, Braelon Allen went up the middle practically untouched for a 39 yard touchdown run for a 7-0 lead and the rout was on from there. Wisconsin scored 28 points in the second quarter on two more Braelon Allen touchdown runs, a Chez Mellusi touchdown run, and a Graham Mertz touchdown pass to Keontez Lewis.

Wisconsin continued to pour it on in the 3rd quarter with back-to-back drives ending in Skyler Bell touchdown receptions, including a 49 yard catch and run from Bell for the first touchdown of his Badgers career.

Graham Mertz finished the day completing 12 of 15 passes for 251 yards, three TDs, and one interception. Braelon Allen rushed for 86 yards on 15 carries with three TDs. Isaac Guerendo had 12 carries for 74 yards and 2 TDs while Chez Mellusi added 10 carries for 71 yards and a touchdown. Skyler Bell was the leading receiver with four catches for 108 yards and 2 TDs.

The Badgers defense had three interceptions on the day and allowed just 242 total yards on the game, most of which coming after a lot of the starters were removed because of the blowout score.

Wisconsin went 2-1 in their non-conference schedule and will begin Big Ten conference play next week with their first road game on the season, and it's a trip to Columbus to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes.
