Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Jon Stewart Appear On Billboard Urging COVID Safety

Three of the Garden State's biggest stars teamed up last week to send a message to their fellow New Jerseyans about COVID-19 safety in language they can all understand: "Wear a friggin' mask!"

Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi and former Daily Show host Jon Stewart appear on a roadside billboard in their home state, wearing masks and displaying social distancing beside the state's blunt new statement on the pandemic.

Springsteen explained in a Tweet that the campaign was launched prior to Thanksgiving in hopes of stemming the ongoing spike in coronavirus cases before the year-end holidays.

"Let's all come together and #MaskUpNJ so we can get back to what we do best — singing and dancing together," The Boss wrote.

Springsteen's Tweet also tagged NJ Governor Phil Murphy, the state's First Lady Tammy Murphy and the New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund.

The NJ Pandemic Relief Fund was launched this past spring to support community-based organizations on the frontlines of the pandemic, including food pantries, churches, health clinics, homeless shelters and other organizations.

Springsteen, Bon Jovi and Stewart were early partners in efforts to support the relief fund, which has raised nearly $40 million for New Jersey's most vulnerable residents.

As COVID cases have continued to rise unchecked this fall throughout the country, health officials have worried that holiday get-togethers, like those for Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas would compound the situation. An estimated 35,000 New Jerseyans likely had active COVID-19 infections on the day before Thanksgiving, according to experts.
