Cheap Trick Drops Cover Of David Bowie's 'Rebel Rebel'

If there's one band that can be relied-upon to deliver an exceptional cover of a classic song by another classic artist, it's Cheap Trick.

As the band approaches its 50th anniversary, Cheap Trick is only getting busier, putting out music as consistently as any act, modern or otherwise.

Cheap Trick's latest studio effort is a faithful cover of David Bowie's 1974 classic "Rebel Rebel," that finds the band of Robin Zander, Rick Nielsen, Tom Petersson and touring drummer Daxx Nielsen in tip-top shape.

In a 2016 interview with Howard Stern, Petersson recounted the band's first in-person encounter with Bowie.

"I had a bet going with Robin," he said. "[Bowie] was over there talking to Annie Lennox. I said, 'I think I can get David to talk to me.' He goes, 'He's not going to talk to you.' ... So I just went over and held his hand. He didn't really see me, so he kept talking to her. For like five minutes, I'm standing there, and then he finally turns around, he looks at me and goes, 'Oh ... you must have the wrong person.'"

Cheap Trick released three full-length albums between 2016 and 2017 and has been steadily dropping new singles the past three years, in addition to touring rigorously.

The band's last single was a 2019 cover of John Lennon's "Gimme Some Truth."
